Tetiyette  and The Devil      The author of  "Tetiyette and The Devil" conveys the story as a fairy tale. It is presented as a sweet bed time story but turns sour. It becomes sour because of the authority and presence of evil. The author has wrapped dog poop in a beautiful gift box. When Tetiyette sees the devil, she sees the gold and the riches; dismissing his heart. The other characters came to Tetiyette with nothing and I think the author did that to show that all they had to offer was all of their selves. This shows that a immature being may look at material happiness and throw away a mental connection for temporary happiness.    The connects with Guadalupe in terms of closeness within family and gender roles. In Guadeloupe, it is very traditional for women in the family to be married off. For a young woman to be picked, it is very honorable and a celebratory time. Also in the Guadeloupean culture, it is looked down upon when youth is disrespectful to elders. Hence

Introduction

Jada Rouser   Prof. Harris    English    4/4/19   Global Warming and Climate Change in Puerto Rico   The island of Puerto Rico will eventually be swallowed whole by the sea. The island will become inhabitable and every species will go extinct or be forced to migrate. Puerto Rico is in werea couple of sparsely populated archipelagos that were a part of 900 islands east of Papua New Cunei. They were named the Kale,  Kapita ,  Kakatina ,  Zollies  and Rehana islands. The collection of islands was low lying and very vulnerable to the rising of the sea level. Between 1947-2014, the sea levels surrounding the islands increased from 28 inches to 39 inches, completely covering them. There was an increase in intensity of winds, atmosphere humidity and natural cycles due to climate change. Now named the “Five Lost Solomon Island”, the islands are used as an example to what to expect globally.  The ice caps in Antarctica continue to melt due to the increasing temperatures. T

My Research Prject

Blog Post #6:  write a blog post that gives readers some highlights of your research, some challenges, interesting facts or places, and what you plan to research next. This must be completed before moving on to the next step in the process.  For my project, I chose to select a topic that is environment centered. I took a environmental class last semester and it opened my eyes to climate change. The climate is changing around us rapidly and it is warning the whole globe of the damage we have done. The highlights of my research include ways to prevent and prepare ourselves for rising sea levels, what we can do to stop this and how it is impacting the Caribbean immensely.  Some challenges that I am facing is finding out about Puerto Rico personally. You can find so much news about what people are seeing that is happening but its hard to find the very people of Puerto Rico reporting the instance. Another challenge is keeping on topic, global warming may seem like a narrow topic but i

Little Cog-burt vs Cotton Candy

The first story to come across is "Little Cog-burt" by Phyllis Allfrey.  In the story, man named Richard owns a plantation and is accompanied by his wife, Moira. Richard was formally a bank manager, plantation owner was a upgrade. Moira was a doll maker from England. Their ritual was cutting her hair.  Moira is impatiently begging her Richard to cut her hair because it is simply just way too hot. They talk about the beautiful poinsettias. Moira made little dolls for her kids before they were sent off to boarding school in England. She is guilty that she sent her kids off. She is bitter that she can not give a party to her own kids. Basically, Richard decides to have a party for the laborers kids on the plantation while, Moira is totally against it and rather be at some fancy dinner instead. Moira is in disgust with the kids and negos period.Richard is no better but he is not the one pinpointed.  The story gives insights on how Moira thinks and interacts with the laborers

The first of many tales...

Tétiyette and the Devil When reading the story without a open eye, you can easily pass over key components. The author is simplistic but yet complex when looking at the underline meaning of the fairy tale. The story requires the desire to understand and focus on the culture and morals behind the people of Guadeloupe. The message of the narrative is two different ideas, the first one is that everything is not what it seems and to listen to those who have your interest in mind. This author conveys its message through the actions and unspoken words of the characters. First, Tetiyette denies seeing the goat and the pig because of what they looked like and who they were. The author tells us in the beginning of the story that Tetiyette is very hard to be pleased, but she had to show us exactly how picky she was. I analyzed the story and found that because it is normally told orally, we must take in that certain factors help emphasize its impact. The specific fact that it is told at funer
